What is Consent?

A clear explanation of enthusiastic consent and its importance in every interaction.

Consent Must Be Freely Given

Consent is an agreement between people to engage in sexual activity. It must be:

  • Freely and Enthusiastically Given: Consent should be a clear and enthusiastic "Yes!". It's not the absence of a "No".
  • Reversible: You can change your mind at any time, even if you said yes before.
  • Informed: You have to have the full picture. For example, if someone lies about using protection, there is no consent.
  • Specific: Saying yes to one thing (like kissing) doesn't mean you've said yes to anything else.

Marriage is Not Consent

Being married or in a relationship does not give anyone the right to have sex with you without your consent. Sex without consent is rape, regardless of your relationship status. It is illegal.
